Made in Australia

Work in progress for series

The first image is a slide show of some of the stages in the final image.  The second is the final image.

Because the first photograph (Tony Abbott with surfboard) is an internet image, the photo is small and of low resolution.  For a more professional version I need a better quality image.

This could become a series - using politicians and people who have become politicised.

Slogans would be the often misleading information on food labelling - 'Made in Australia', 'Product of Australia', and the generic (and largely meaningless) 'Australian'.

Topics to be covered:

  • Asylum seekers and the issues surrounding 'turning back the boats' and incarceration by Australia in third world countries.

  • The 'war' against Islamic State - and Australia's use of offence in the name of defence.

  • Cuts to our budget - and the way we treat those most in need...

Too much pressure

I was given this sample print today, after the artist, Bill Hay, had been demonstrating printmaking.

The image is a response to the continuing controversy over East-West Link in Melbourne and its potential to destroy suburbs and ruin one of Melbourne's major parks - Royal Park.

However, the print was flawed.  The press had too much pressure.

There has also been too much pressure on the artist and many others who love Melbourne's inner city parks and suburbs.

The final response to Text and Image is on the next page - Lifestyle Choices

The Age of Entitlement

Unless you already have it, you don't deserve it!

Bleed our schools, hospitals and other 'services' dry, sell them off to private enterprise, and make sure that subsidies only go to those who already have more than enough.

That way, entitlement remains in the hands of those who deserve it.

Hell for Sale

In 2013 and 2014, three major industries in Geelong underwent major change.  Ford Motor Company and Alcoa aluminium smelter announced closure of their Geelong plants.   Shell refinery was put up for sale, with the probability that if no sale eventuated the refinery would close or become a storage facility only.

This painting was my response.

Alcoa Geelong is now closed.  Ford will close in 2016.  Shell has sold the refinery to another multinational who plan to reevaluate the refinery's viability in 2020.

In the style of Barbara Kruger

This collage was created in 2013.

Feminism may be a major liberation tool for women in the western world with some gains since the 1970s.

However, the events of recent times show that, for much of the world, women are still seen as chattels for work and exploitation.

Urban Jungle: here stood a forest

Before Europeans came to Corio Bay, forest covered the land.

We now talk of urban areas as 'the urban jungle'.

This fantasy image is a reminder that once this was a pristine landscape.
